This is a hands-on 2-day workshop on data science, machine learning and AI. We will cover the basics, tools and even write some machine learning code that can solve common industry problems! After this workshop, you will understand when and how to use data science, ML/AI in your profession; and even start basic projects on your own.

This workshop is intended for beginners (no coding experience required).

The two days are broken up in to 4 lessons:

  • Lesson 1: Data Science, Machine Learning, and AI in Research and Industry
  • Lesson 2: Build and Train your First ML Model (Coding Exercise)
  • Lesson 3: Data Communication, Explainable AI (Coding Exercise)
  • Lesson 4: Ethical AI & Your Responsibility as a Data Scientist

Who is it for?

This workshop is designed for professionals who want to learn how to implement data science and AI into their day-to-day work, such as engineers, biologists, finance professionals, scientists, and anyone who deals with data in general. By attending this workshop, you will gain an understanding of when to use these tools and how to begin basic projects. Overall, this workshop provides an excellent opportunity for professionals to develop their knowledge and skills in data science, AI, and ML, giving them a competitive edge in their careers.

Coffee and lunch is provided on both days. The workshop will take place at 235 Water Street (Scotia Bank Building) on Saturday and Sunday (15th April & 16th April).

Speaker

This workshop is taught by Heather Zurel. Heather is an accomplished data scientist with experience in companies such as Sequence Bio and Instrumar. She has recently founded Data Farms, a startup focusing on data driven agriculture and engages in consultation in her free time.
